Geonoma atrovirens

This palm is a stunning understory species highly prized for its simple, bifid (split) leaves that emerge with a deep, velvet-like texture. It is distinguished by its intense, dark metallic green foliage which can occasionally display reddish or purplish hues when young.

• Light: Deep to moderate shade. As a true forest floor inhabitant, it is extremely sensitive to direct sunlight; exposure should be strictly avoided.
• Temperature: 65-85°F (18-29°C). It requires a consistent tropical climate with warm nights; protect strictly from cold drafts, frost, or sudden temperature fluctuations.
• Humidity: Very high levels, consistently above 70-80%. It requires a stable, humid environment to maintain the health of its foliage and to prevent the leaf tips from drying out.
• Watering: Keep the substrate consistently moist but never saturated. Apply water regularly to ensure the roots never dry out completely, and use a well-draining, organic-rich medium to prevent stagnant conditions at the root level.
